FANTASY ISLAND

Mafia / January 20

If you’ve ever dreamed of paradise, Phi Phi is your one stop destination. Rebuilt from the ground up following the 2004 tsunami, Phi Phi has regained its reputation as one of the world’s best tourist spots, no thanks due to its crystal blue waters. We arrived on boat following a 2hr ride across the Indian Ocean, with 400 sun burnt tourists in tow. We then caught a long boat to our resort, where we stayed put for the next 6 days. The Beach Resort is the first cluster of mountain-esque five star huts you see as you turn the corner into the Phi Phi homeland. Furthest from the city, we were treated to the utmost relaxing holiday far from the town’s crazy New Year’s activities. Three floors up the mountain we found our digs for the stay – a self contained wooden hut complete with ice-cold air con, divine outdoor shower and jaw dropping views.

The photos below are not postcards! This place is absolute paradisia! We were treated on New Years to a showdown of traditional Thai dancers and fire twirling as well as $30,000 worth of ear splitting fireworks right on the beach. Speaking of ‘the beach’ – this was the place where Leo DiCaprio filmed his Danny Boyle directed 2000 film ‘The Beach’ (fancy! ahhaha!). You could swim in the shallow clear waters and watch exotic fish swim around your feet, all without goggles or skuba gear. I’ve never seen anything like it. And I’ve never experienced anything like this holiday. If you’re tired of the rat race of the city, a cheap flight and even cheaper accommodation will get you the vacation of a lifetime. All up we spent just under $300 for 10 days! And that’s with drinking bottomless cups of mojitios and stuffing our faces with lobsters and only the finest seafood. But I’ll let the pics do the talking!
