Jerome Simpson – Unconventional

BEN MENZIES / January 09

I don’t know anything about American football and I’m not about to pretend that I do. I do however have an immense appreciation for flamboyant acts of athletic ignorance and there is no finer example of this than Jerome Simpson’s frontflip touchdown:

Whether or not this was a spur of the moment tactical measure or the result of months of gymnastics training, Jerome Simpson has earned my respect. Dodging left or right is boring and getting tackled is a cop out. If you’re running towards a goal at pace with nothing but another man standing between you and that goal, of course you’d frontflip over the top of that man, right? The only thing that could’ve made this better is if Simpson and his teammates broke out into some kind of celebratory riverdance homage, which is the only other thing I know about American football.
